Term 4

πŸ¦‰ Welcome back to Term 4! πŸ¦‰

The year is flying by and we are now halfway through our time together in the Owls! As the days begin to draw out and the weather hints at getting warmer, we have a super term ahead of us!

Our theme for this term is

Jungle Rock!

In Science, we will be answering the question, Are all animals the same? We will begin our unit identifying and naming common animals and then move on to learn how scientists classify and sort animals into groups. We will then look at different animal diets.

Through the term, we will also continue to observe and describe the seasonal changes as we move towards Spring.

πŸͺ»

Our work in English will be inspired by the book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak. We will read how Max goes on a magical adventure to a strange but exciting land where he meets the Wild Things! Once we have fully explored the text we will plan and write our own version of a portal narrative. Throughout the unit we will consolidate our understanding of how to write an exciting sentence and build on our knowledge of spelling conventions.

In Maths, we will continue focusing on addition and subtraction within 20. We will be learning different strategies for solving problems as well as securing our knowledge of number facts including doubles and halves.  We will then move on to learning about place value and numbers up to 50. To finish the term, we will begin to learn how we measure length and height and mass and volume.

In RE, our enquiry question is, Why does Easter matter to Christians? We will be thinking about the period of Lent and look at the different parts of the Easter story.

🐣

In Music we will be having lots of fun exploring the different sounds percussion instruments can make. We will learn that these different sounds are called the ‘timbre’ of an instrument. We will be grouping instruments by the way they are played and what they are made of and will learn that sound can be described in different ways.

🎡

In IT, we will be learning the importance of precise commands and the importance of staying safe when online.

This term, PE days will continue to be on a Tuesday and Friday. Remember to make sure that you have warm clothing as whenever possible, our lessons will take place outside.

Lots to look forward to Owls!
