Term 1

Welcome to our first term in the Owls!

We have a super term planned full of exciting activities!

Our theme for this term is

Marvellous Me!

Science

In Science, we will be thinking about the question, 'What makes me marvellous?' To help answer our question, we will learn the names of the parts of our bodies and what they are used for. We will then move on to develop our understanding of the senses; how they are linked to different parts of our bodies and how these help us. Throughout the year we will also be investigating seasonal change. This term we will investigate the changes we see as Autumn approaches.

Art

In our Art unit, Colour me Happy we will be looking at and discussing the work of Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky and their use of colour. We will learn about primary colours and then how they are used to make secondary colours. Finally, we will use our knowledge to create our own unique piece of artwork inspired by the work of either Mondrian or Kandinsky.

RE

In RE, our enquiry question is, 'What do Christians believe God is like?’ We will learn that Christians find out about God in the Bible. We will listen to the parable of The Lost Son and discuss what Christians believe this story tells them about God.

English

Our learning in English will build on the children's experience of the 'Drawing Club' in the Robins. Each week we will focus on a new story, developing our knowledge of exciting and adventurous vocabulary and inspiring our children’s imagination to make their drawings come alive by writing a magic code! The ever-popular Theatre Time will continue as an opportunity for our budding authors to share their fabulous work with an audience! Alongside all of this, we will continue to practise our letter formation and begin to learn how to spell some of the Year 1 common exception words. The children will also be continuing their reading journey using the Read Write Inc scheme (Fred time).

Maths

In Maths, we will start the term revisiting and embedding our learning about numbers up to 10. We will be doing lots of practical work; sorting and counting objects, writing numbers, counting forwards and backwards, comparing amounts and ordering numbers. We will also look at how we can represent numbers in different ways, using a variety of apparatus. Later in the term, we will go on to learn about addition and subtraction within 10.

PSHE

In our PSHE work this term we will be thinking about our feelings and emotions as well as what it means to be a good friend.

PE

In PE we will be exploring different ways of moving, changing speed and direction as well as jumping, hopping and skipping! We will also be developing our ball skills. We will be developing greater control and accuracy when throwing and catching and rolling and dribbling with both our hands and feet. PE will start the first full week back at school and PE days will be confirmed on Class Dojo shortly. Please come to school wearing your PE kit on PE days and remember to make sure that you have warm clothing as whenever possible, lessons will take place outside.

What a busy and exciting term we have ahead of us!
