Term 1
Welcome to our first term in the Owls!
Our theme for this term is
Marvellous Me!
Science
In Science, we will be thinking about the question, 'What makes me marvellous?' To help answer our question, we will learn the names of the parts of our bodies and what they are used for. We will then move on to develop our understanding of the senses; how they are linked to different parts of our bodies and how these help us. Throughout the year we will also be investigating seasonal change. This term we will investigate the changes we see as Autumn approaches.
Art
In our Art unit, ‘Colour me Happy’ we will be looking at and discussing the work of Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky and their use of colour. We will learn about primary colours and then how they are used to make secondary colours. Finally, we will use our knowledge to create our own unique piece of artwork inspired by the work of either Mondrian or Kandinsky.
RE
In RE, our enquiry question is, 'What do Christians believe God is like?’ We will learn that Christians find out about God in the Bible. We will listen to the parable of The Lost Son and discuss what Christians believe this story tells them about God.
English
Our learning in English will be inspired by the book ‘Old Bear’ by Jane Hussey. Through this unit we will learn how to write a simple narrative as well as develop our understanding of the concept of a sentence and how they are written. This term we will also be focusing on learning the Year 1 common exception words.
Maths
In Maths, we will be to using our Power Maths scheme. We will start the term off with a number block that revisits and embeds our learning in the Flamingos. It will focus on the numbers up to 10. Within this unit, we will be sorting objects, counting objects, writing numbers, counting forwards and backwards, comparing amounts and ordering numbers. We will also look at representing numbers in lots of different ways, using lots of different apparatus.
PSHE
Our PSHE work this term will focus on health and well-being.
PE
In Term 1, our PE days will be on a Monday and a Thursday. Please come to school wearing your PE kit on these days. Remember to make sure that you have warm clothing as whenever possible, lessons will take place outside.
What a busy and exciting term we have ahead of us!
