Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3 and a Happy New Year!

We have lots of exciting learning happening this term!

In Science...

Our big enquiry question will be 'How does the human circulatory system work?' We will explore the complexity of the human body looking closely at blood composition and function, the heart, nutrients and how we can maintain a healthy body. This topic will involve some very fun experiments and investigations - starting with making a blood smoothie!

In Geography...

Our big enquiry question will be 'What is the true human impact on our beautiful planet?' and in this unit we will focus closely on the continent of Africa. We will investigate physical geography features including: biomes and vegetation belts, habitats and the impact of weather. We will also look at human geography features including the distribution of food and water and the population distribution. The Eagles will also carry out some local field work in Ketton to compare with data in Africa.

In Art...

In Art, we will be exploring accuracy and form whilst drawing. The Eagles will continue to develop their accuracy of observational drawings by recreating more complex compositions. They will consider size and scale of the pieces they are drawing to develop greater accuracy.

In English...

The Eagles will write an imaginary world narrative this term inspired by a book written by LD Lapinski. We will continue to embed newly taught Year 6 grammar targets into their writing. Towards the end of term, when we are deep into our science topic, the Eagles will write an essay to answer our big enquiry question in Science.

In Maths...

We will continue our Maths journey throughout the term beginning with Decimals and Percentages before moving on to Algebra and Measuring using Imperial and Metric measurements.

In RE...

We will focus on a different religion this term: Buddhism. The Eagles will learn to make connections between different beliefs and practices across religions. We will learn all about the 4 noble truths and the 8-fold path and look closely at what Buddhists believe in.

In Computing...

We will look at how we can ensure we are being safe online. The Eagles will explore the positive and negative effects of the internet, discuss sharing online and privacy settings. We will learn how to create a positive online reputation, what online bullying is and how to manage passwords safely. Finally, we will learn how to identify potential scams and reduce the risk of falling for one.

In PE...

We will start focusing on Net & Wall games this term and the sport we will be working on will be Basketball. The Eagles will learn to combine dribbling, passing and shooting skills into a game situation and work together as a team to score and defend baskets.
