Term 1
Rocket Man!
In Science, we will start the year by learning about Earth and space. We will spend this term exploring the question 'what is in our solar system?' The Falcons will conduct experiments and undertake observations whilst developing their understanding of our solar system and the celestial bodies that can be found in it.
In English, we will use our topic as the stimulus for our writing, using Jane Considine's three zones of writing to explore film narratives - that create suspense/mystery - inspired by E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. We will aim to create our own narratives about an alien landing, using storyboarding to help us sequence the plot. We will follow this by writing a recount about a UFO landing. We will also use Jane Considine's reading rainbow to explore the text Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce.
In Maths, we will begin the year by revisiting and building on our current understanding of place value. This year we will begin to work on numbers to 1,000,000! We will then continue developing our understanding of addition and subtraction, this time using numbers with more than four digits.
In Music, we will continue our theme from English by focusing on film music, specifically sci-fi films!
In Art, we will begin to explore how using texture in our paintings can bring a piece of artwork to life and impact the viewer. We will look at famous artists known for their use of texture, such as; Vincent Van Gogh and Justin Gaffrey, exploring how their work can inspire us.
