Term 1
Welcome back to Term 1!
Our theme for this term is
Healthy and Happy!
In Science, we will be thinking about the question, 'What does it mean to lead a healthy lifestyle?' We will start by finding out about the basic needs for survival for animals and humans before moving on to discuss the importance of eating the right amount of different foods. Later in the term, we will be discussing the importance of exercise and investigating the effect it has on our bodies. We will also be learning about the importance of hygiene in living a healthy lifestyle.
Our PSHE unit of work will link closely with our work in Science. We will be answering the question, 'What helps us grow and stay healthy?' We will be further developing our understanding of what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle and thinking about why we need to sleep, different ways to relax and rest, dental hygiene and ways of staying safe in the sun.
In Geography, we will be answering the enquiry question 'Where in the world is the United Kingdom?' We will start by revisiting our learning from Year 1, identifying where we live within the UK, before moving on to locating and naming the world's continents and oceans and the location of the UK in relation to these. We will also be using compass directions and locational language to describe locations and routes.
In RE, our enquiry question is, 'What is the good news that Christians believe Jesus brings and how does this effect how they may lead their life?' We will be listening to stories from the Bible and discussing what these mean to Christians.
In English, we will be thinking about fables. We will start by listening to and reading lots of different ones before investigating their different features. Using the book, 'The Crow's Tale' by Naomi Howarth as our inspiration, we will go on to write a shared version of a fable before writing one of our own. Later in the term, we will be looking at instructions, We will be investigating the features of instructional writing before going on to write our own instructions for a bird feeder.
In Maths, we will be continuing to use our Power Maths scheme. We will start the term by further developing our understanding of numbers to 100. We will be counting numbers, representing them in different ways and comparing and ordering numbers. We will also be learning to count in multiples of 2, 5 ,10 and 3. Later in the term, we will move on to addition and subtraction.
What a busy and exciting term we have ahead of us!
