Term 3

All aboard Term 3

We are going on a great learning adventure to lots of countries!

This term our theme is: Around the world in 40 days

In English this term the Kestrels will be learning about Stories from another culture, we will be looking at The Pearl Diver by Julia Johnson. They will then write a setting description about what a diver sees under the sea. They will also be exploring The Journey by Francesca Sanna as this will be the writing stimulus when creating an adventure story themselves.

We have a fascinating class read this term The butterfly lion by Michael Morpurgo. It is about the remarkable story of Bertie who rescues an orphaned white lion cub from the African veld.

In Maths the  kestrels will build on their prior knowledge by developing their understanding of multiplication and division before exploring money and statistics.

In RE the Kestrels will study Hinduism. They will learn what it means to be a Hindu in Britain today.

In Science we will be investigating forces, in order to answer the question: What are forces? We will look at the forces working on objects as well as how magnetic forces work.

In Art the Kestrels will investigate artwork by Carolee Clark. They will explore tints and shades of colours and begin to be more specific about their colour choices. Once mastered they will use these skills to  complete their own artwork inspired by Carolee Clark.

The we will have PE on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons this term. On Mondays they will be doing  Basketball and on Thursdays they will be doing Benchball with Mr Andre.

The Kestrels will also have ICT and Geography taught by Mrs Glassford. In Geography they will be comparing a region of the U.K with a region in France in order to find out what's the same and what's different.
