Term 5

Term 5

This term our theme is

A Polar Adventure!

In Geography, we will be learning all about Antarctica in order to answer our enquiry question 'Is it harder to live in the polar regions or the UK?'. Building on the knowledge we gained through learning about Robert Falcon Scott's expedition to the South Pole, we will further investigate the physical and human features found on the continent and compare them to those found in Rutland. We will also compare wildlife found in each location as well as environmental issues facing the two localities.

In RE, our enquiry question for the term is, 'How should we care for the world and others, and why does it matter?' Building on our prior learning about Christianity and Judaism, we will explore how the concept of caring springs from people's beliefs and how this can turn into actions for many religious and non-religious people.

In IT, our learning will link closely to Maths. We will learn how to use technology to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve information. We will learn how to enter data, present it in different ways and answer questions about what it shows. We will also learn about the importance of using technology safely and keeping personal data private.

In English, we start the term by thinking about how to write effective instructions. We will read and follow a variety of different instructions and identify the structure and key features of this text type. To end our unit, we will be using the knowledge we have gained in science to write instructions for how to grow a bean plant. Later in the term we will be reading a variety of exciting 'dragon stories' and using them as a stimulus to revisit some of the text types we have previously learnt about.

In Maths, we will consolidate our understanding of number and the four operations as well as learning about Shape and Measures.

This term, we also have Music with Mrs Regan.

PE days remain the same this term. On a Wednesday afternoon, Mr Andre will be teaching athletics and on a Friday morning, we are pleased to be working with the Welland Dance Academy.

What a busy term we have ahead of us!

I can't wait to get started!
