Changes to Ofsted Inspections

Ofsted has introduced a new inspection framework for schools, starting from November 2025.

To help explain these changes, we are sharing this short video below.

What’s changing?
ALMOST EVERYTHING!

• No more single grade (like “Good” or “Outstanding”).
  Instead, schools will receive a report showing how they are doing in different areas.
• Inspectors will look more closely at:

- how well pupils are supported and included

- behaviour and attendance

- safeguarding and wellbeing

- the quality of teaching and the curriculum
- achievement

The aim is to give families a fair, clear and more complete picture of each school.

Why this matters:

These changes mean parents will get more useful information about:

• what our school does well
• where we need to improve
• how we support all pupils, including those with additional needs

The framework is new for everyone, including inspectors, and has been trialled during the autumn term. Headteachers are currently completing training so they can support staff in understanding the changes.

We recently met with Ofsted’s Regional Director, who emphasised that this is a fundamentally different way of looking at schools. Because the new system reports on several areas separately, schools are likely to have a more varied profile than before as everyone becomes familiar with the process.
