Term 3

Term 3!

Our theme for this term is

Amazing Journeys!

We have a busy, fun-filled term ahead of us!

Read on to find out more about what we will be up to in the Kingfisher class!

In History, we will be thinking about the question, 'Who had the most challenging journey?' In order to answer our question we will be learning about two significant individuals from the past and their achievements. We will do this through using and evaluating a variety of sources of historical evidence. Once we have completed our research, the Kingfishers will use evidence they have found to form their own opinion as to who had the most challenging journey!

In English this term we will be exploring the theme of pirates! Our class read, 'Sam Silver, Undercover Pirate' will take the Kingfishers on an exciting, time travelling adventure set on the high seas! We will also be looking at non-fiction writing based around the theme of pirates. We will investigate the features of non-fiction books and non-chronological reports before going on to write our own non-chronological report about pirates. In this unit, we will learning about different sentence types and how to punctuate them accurately as well as how to extend sentences using a range of conjunctions. Later in the term, we will look at letter writing.

Our DT unit will link with our work in English. We will be designing and making a bag for a pirate to carry their coins! We will investigate how different bags are made before learning how to use a template and different joining techniques. We will finish our unit by designing, making and evaluating our very own pirate bag!

In Maths, we will be learning about multiplication and division. We will learn how to solve problems involving multiplication and division using concrete materials, arrays, repeated addition and mental methods as well as write mathematical statements involving these operations . We will learn the multiplication facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and the related division facts.

In RE we will be thinking about the question 'Who is Jewish and how do they live?' We will listen to stories used in Jewish celebrations and learn how Jewish people celebrate special times.

This term we also have Musicwith Mrs Regan, our music specialist!

What a busy term we have ahead of us!
