Term 2

Term 2!

Our theme for this term is

Marvellous Materials!

What an exciting term we have ahead of us!

Here is a taste of what we will be doing!

In Science, we will be thinking about the question, 'Why do materials matter?' We will build on what we learnt about materials in Year 1 by investigating the properties of different materials and testing their suitability for different purposes. We will go on to investigate how the shape of some materials can be changed.

Our Art unit will link to our work in Science. We will be exploring how we can create different shapes and textures in clay. We will look at the work of different clay designers and use the knowledge and skills we have learnt to create our own festive tea light holders!

In English, we will start the term by thinking about Traditional Tales. We will be reading different versions of these familiar stories, investigating their features and comparing them to fables. We will learn how to write powerful descriptions and to write in the past tense before going on to write our own version of a traditional tale. As we move toward Christmas, our focus will be on poetry. We will learn what an acrostic poem is and then write our own Christmas themed acrostic poem!

In Maths, we will continue our unit on addition and subtraction within 100 and then move on to learning about money. We will be counting coins and notes, finding different ways to show equal amounts, comparing amounts as well as calculating totals and finding change! Toward the end of term, we will be learning about multiplication and division.

In RE, we will be answering the question 'Why does Christmas matter to Christians?' This unit will focus on the Christmas story as told in Matthew's Gospel and how the story of the nativity is used in churches.

This term, our PE lessons will be on a Wednesday (Invasion Games with Mr Andre) and a Friday (Dance: Mini Groovers).
