Term 2

Term 2 has arrived, and I am super excited to share with you all the fun activities we have planned! Not only do we have some exciting topics this Term, we have the much-anticipated Year 6 Residential to attend, a Warning Zone trip and if that was not exciting enough, we also have a variety of Christmas activities to enjoy. So, what does this Term have in store?

In Maths this term we will begin by starting our new fractions unit which will involve multiplying, dividing and adding and subtracting fractions. By the end of the term, we will start to move on to converting units of measurement.

Our English units this term will be focused around two books – the first is a poignant picture book by Italian illustrator Roberto Innocenti, set in Germany during WWII, that tells the story of a young girl who discovers the reality of the Holocaust through innocent eyes. The second is a sensitively told account of the Nazi persecution of the Jews and Anne Frank's family's hiding in a secret annexe to escape them. Using these as our drivers the Eagles will write a bravery award speech and a diary entry.

In Science this term we will be learning about Living Things and their Habitats. Building on our work from last term, we will learn about how animals are classified into broad groups according to their characteristics. We will explore plants and animals and will be looking closely at micro-organisms to see what makes them the same and different. We will learn how to use classification keys and learn about the man who created the classification system - Carl Linneaus.

In Art the Eagles will focus on accuracy and form in their drawing topic. The inspirational artist for this topic is Pablo Picasso, and we will be focusing on his cubism work. The Eagles will explore the artist’s work, create still life drawings, work on pencil grip, shading and tone and will eventually create their own Cubism inspired piece of artwork. We look forward to sharing these with you all!

In French this term we will study the French-speaking country of Senegal and expand our understanding of another African nation. We will find out about the geography and cultural features of the country, discover musical traditions and Senegalese instruments. We will also learn how to express our likes and dislikes and learn how to describe items of clothing in French.

In RE this term the Eagles will explore ‘What does it mean for a Jewish person to follow God?’ This unit allows them to explore how Jewish people live and laws they follow.  They will learn about Orthodox use of the Shema in the tefillin and they will find out about how a Sefer Torah is used each week in the synagogue and for the annual cycle of readings.

PE this term we will on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

It’s going to be another busy Term so roll on Monday – let the fun begin! 😊
