Term 4
Welcome back to term 4. I can't believe we are now half of the way through the school year - where has the time gone? This term is going to be a jam-packed one: lots of learning to be done and memories to be made! Here is an overview of what we will be getting up to...
In English this term the Eagles will be exploring poetry. The aim is to give them the opportunity to read and listen to classic poems and to consider how the sounds and language patterns come alive when they are read aloud. The Eagles will identify poetic devices, explain their effects and research the literary influences of classic poetry in preparation for writing their own piece.
In BEAR they will also spend some time reading a pertinent book “The Final Year” which is written entirely in a narrative poetry style - this will provide inspiration for their own poems.
In Maths, the Eagles will continue to consolidate all that they have learnt so far whilst also learning some new areas of study: decimals and percentages and area, perimeter and volume. They will keep working hard on their daily arithmetic and building on their multi-step questions and problem-solving techniques. This Term we will start our after-school Maths Boosters – letters with dates and times will be arriving after parents evening.
This term, The Eagles will continue with their Geography unit where they will be working towards answering the big enquiry question: What is the human impact on our planet? They will focus their studies on the continent of Africa which has a diverse range of biomes including the Sahara Desert, Congo rainforest, and savannahs. They will explore the impacts of climate change, such as droughts, floods, and food insecurity in this region. Key learning focuses on physical geography, alongside human impact, sustainability, and adaptation.
In Science, the Eagles are going to be learning about Light. They will be working to prove that light travels in straight lines, using observations of reflections and shadows. They will explore how their eyes allow them to see, how mirrors can be used in various ways and investigate factors affecting the size of shadows and the laws of reflection.
In RE, the Eagles will look deeper into the meaning of Salvation, in the run up to Easter. The big enquiry question is... What difference does the Resurrection make to Christians? They will investigate how the accounts of the Resurrection, in the Bible, differ, how Christians interpret these accounts and how the story of the Resurrection influence how people respond to problems today?
The Eagles also have French this term with Mrs Honorez and Music with Miss Hatton!
In Enrichment this term, they will be brushing up on their touch-typing skills and creating/playing spelling games to help support their learning.
PE days in Term 4 TBC.
Wow, as I said earlier a jam-packed Term ahead of us!
